The core offering is the talks aimed at school children. This is a long-established activity offered by universities to schools, and we intend to build on an existing successful format by focusing on training and equipping students to deliver the talks. They learn useful skills that they want to acquire, they spread the load (as academics can’t do it all), they are constantly renewed each year, and this is an outreach activity that all universities want to do well:
- We supply well-designed Powerpoint presentations for those themes introduced by the posters. The presentations will be made available through the website and they can be enhanced locally with additional material.
- The talks are given mainly by students, probably PhD, MSc, and final-year undergraduates. These students need training, perhaps through STEMNET's Science and Engineering Ambassadors Programme, and coordination and bookings would be arranged through the University/College and their Schools liaison staff.
- Each partner University/College has to have a coordinator, either in the departmental office, or an experienced member of the student team, to chase teachers and manage bookings.
The process is coordinated and is backed centrally with an informative website.
